چکیده

Abstract – This paper introduces a mathematical model for the analysis of media access protocols for star-coupled wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) photonic networks. The proposed technique provides accurate performance prediction while also preserving model flexibility. General traffic generation and resource holding time distributions are supported with this semi-markov based approach. The model is independent of the system size and is linearly scalable to any arbitrary queue capacity. The analytic technique is introduced through the study of two pre-allocation protocols designed for WDM star-coupled photonic networks. The protocols consideredin this paper have been proposedfor networks with WDM channels pre-allocated to the nodes in the network. The pre-allocation approach reduces the resulting system complexity since both tunable transmitters and receivers are not required, and also has the advantage of being applicable to systems where there are many more nodes than wavelength channels. Both protocols are designed to operate in a multiple-channel multiple-access environment and require each node to possess a tunable transmitter and a fixed (or slow tunable) receiver. The developed models are validated through discrete-event simulation. The performance of the two protocols is studied in terms of average packet delay and network throughput for variations in the system parameters.

Process algebraic modeling of authentication protocols for analysis of parallel multi-session executions

Many security protocols have the aim of authenticating one agent acting as initiator to another agent acting as responder and vice versa. Sometimes, the authentication fails because of executing several parallel sessions of a protocol, and because an agent may play both the initiator and responder role in parallel sessions. We take advantage of the notion of transition systems to specify authen...

Survey on Performance Evaluation Techniques for Medium Access Control Protocols

Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols, in data networks, are responsible for arbitrating access to a shared medium. This survey paper looks into the techniques and metrics used for evaluating these protocols. The most common performance metrics are delay and throughput, though in certain cases, like sensor networks, power consumption might also be an important metric. The paper focuses on three...

Analytical modeling of bidirectional multi-channel IEEE 802.11 MAC protocols

This paper presents an analytical approach to model the bi-directional multi-channel IEEE 802.11 MAC protocols (Bi-MCMAC) for ad hoc networks. Extensive simulation work has been done for the performance evaluation of IEEE 802.11 MAC protocols. Since simulation has several limitations, this work is primarily based on the analytical approach. The objective of this paper is to show analytically th...
